Free Things To Do
Here are several suggestions about “free things” to do if you are visiting Williamsburg or plan to attend the Jamestown 400 celebration. These may just be as much fun as any of the “paid” attractions in the surrounds. Also I have included a list of other things that are free. You can click on any of the topics ON THE RIGHT to read what it is available for free.
- Walk Duke of Gloucester Street - you’ll be in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg and currently there is no charge to walk down the street and in the open areas, visit shops and vendors, enjoy a meal and share in the colonial atmosphere.
- Bike along the many trails or on the Colonial Parkway adjacent to Jamestown. There are many places to stop and enjoy a picnic along while riding the parkway along the James River.
- Ride the ferry (see related entry).
- Visit a park - “KidsBurg” is about 4 miles from Jamestown with picnic tables and shelters generally available (bring a blanket just in case). Exit Jamestown on Jamestown Rd (Rt 31) go about 1 mile, turn left at Sandy Bay Rd. (7/11 on the corner) Straight ahead through the red light and the park is about a mile further on the left. Close by is Chik-fil-A and a Burger King. The park has several attractions just for kids and adults that are youthful.
